The Empire that Killed the Most People
You might be surprised when I say the empire that killed the most people was the British Empire. More deaths than Hitler and Stalin's genocide combined. They killed around 150 million people. They also used concentration camps way before World War 2 in South Africa during the second Boer war because they couldn't beat the Boers because their families helped the fighters. Thousands of women and children died from disease and starvation from these camps. Not to mention they hoarded the rice and grain from India and increased taxation that then caused widespread famines that killed around 29 million people. So I hope you learned a little bit more about the British Empire.

Wow, I feel enlightened. Thanks mate.
ReplyDeleteIt's a shame we aren't taught this in school. Good research!
ReplyDeleteIf you count deaths that were a direct result of the actions of an empire the Soviet Union killed 20,000,000 non-communist people after the Russian revolution, along with over 200,000 Japanese during WWII, and 2,000,000 mujahadeen insurgents in Afghanistan for a grant total of 22,200,000. Germany's actions started WWII and WWI. 70,000,000 people died in WWII and 19,000,000 people died in WWI for a total of 89,000,000 deaths. That combined with the Soviet Union's death count is 111,200,000. It's all terrible.
ReplyDeleteBut also interesting.
